Environment

We are committed to making a positive environmental contribution. We're committed to embedding sustainability across all areas of our business and supporting sustainable initiatives beyond Marco.

Product Design

Since 2016 we have minimised our tank size without losing the same water output performance as larger machines.

This is enabled by better software and hardware control over incoming water.

This smaller tank means water heats up quicker, less steel, less heat loss and less water wasted; resulting in higher performance energy-efficient systems.

The Nature Trust

In 2022 Marco became the first Irish SME to partner with The Nature Trust aimed at planting more native Irish trees.

The goal is to plant 1 hectare of native Irish woodland to support local wildlife and provide public access for recreation

Green House Gas Audit

In 2021 we began a practice of Greenhouse Gas accounting every 6 months. This involves reviewing our entire business to identify and reduce our scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions

To date, we have reduced our CO2emissions:

From 1906 tonnes (Oct 21 – Mar 22) to 717 tonnes (July 23 – Dec 23)

Waterless Testing

For over a decade Marco has utilised a means of waterless testing in our production facilities to allow us to test many of our machines without water or the energy required to heat that water.

A case study has found that we are unique in our industry for doing this and brings a reduction in water usage and energy usage as well as increase the efficiency of our factories.

Supply Chain

To ensure our supply chain is as efficient, transparent, and ethical as possible, we:

  1. Require suppliers to complete an assessment based on our policies and rules, including those related to social and environmental performance
  2. Enact local purchasing policies with written preference at each facility to purchase from local suppliers
  3. Are compliant with all local laws and regulations, including those related to social and environmental performanc

ISO Quality Standards

Marco has two manufacturing operations one based in Ningbo China and the other based in Dublin. Both sites are ISO 9001:2015 approved.

The ISO 9001:2015 'The adoption of a quality management system is a strategic decision for an organization that can help to improve its overall performance and provide a sound basis for sustainable development initiatives.'

Governance

Marco recognises that our board of directors, management, and employees have certain rights and have put in place good corporate governance policies such as:

  1. Written employee whistle-blowing policy with confidentiality policy
  2. Annual communication of the anti-corruption system to relevant internal and external stakeholders
  3. Anonymous mechanisms to report concerns and grievances
  4. Published code of conduct

Communities

We are committed to constantly reviewing and amending our business practices, controls, and procedures to ensure they are compliant, inclusive and efficient.

Local Scholarships

In 2023 we committed to financially supporting a student who was at risk of dropping out of college due to the costs associated with their college fees, books, rent etc.

We support local schools and colleges by offering work experience placements and giving talks about careers in our industry. We are delighted to partner with Engineers Ireland an on annual basis to encourage students, particularly female students to consider the exciting world of Engineering as a future career.

Marco are proud to sponsor sports kits and equipment for local sports clubs and teams with whom a Marco employee actively participates.
