MICE is almost upon us so we thought we’d do a little write up on the event and give you a little insight into what our plans are for the event. Melbourne sees the WBC go down under for the first time. Since the first World Barista Championships in 2000, thisinternational coffee competition, produced annually by World Coffee Events, has emerged as the world’s most pre-eminent industry event. Today, the competition attracts participants from over 50 countries around the world, each of them bringing a team of sponsors, coaches and spectators. The result is the richest and most diverse representation of the global coffee industry the world over. In 2013 the Melbourne International Coffee Expo (MICE) proudly hosts the World Barista Championships and World Brewers Cup. As for Marco’s part in all of this, we’ll be running the brew bar once again. The overall concept remains the same with 3 separate water delivery systems operating on 3 arms with several different types of brew methods being employed. The featured brewing kit will be:
- Clever Dripper
- Espro Press
- Able Kone/Discs
Our water boilers will be there to allow for precise temperature and delivery. Specifically the Uber boiler, the Uber font with two temperatures available and the Ecoboiler T10 will all be there for the duration. There’ll be two coffees per arm per day and they will all be brewed to the highest standard by some of the world’s best baristas. We’re quite proud of how the bar looks every year and the attention to aesthetic detail this year has been even more precise if anything. We’re trying out a new way of communicating the detail of each roaster’s coffee to the audience that we think keeps the bar flowing nicely and is as detailed as ever. If you follow our Twitter account you’ve probably already seen the sneak peek but here it is again.
