Hi folks, I hope you’re all keeping well. As you are all probably aware Marco is committed to working with more and more charities and the community wherever we may be. There is one charity that our UK team is working with at the moment that we’re particularly fond of as they do fantastic work without shouting about it. So we thought we’d do a little shouting for them. The Clink Restaurant provides a genuine opportunity to prisoners that have under 18 months left to serve to gain catering qualifications and they also look to set them up with work on the outside. This in turn is lowering the re-offending rate dramatically which has a result on tax payers ,which is good for all. Since starting in 2009 with one restaurant (open to the public & in the grounds of the prison) 84 prisoners have been through the programme, with 28 currently working towards the qualification. 25 from the initial 84 have found employment, with only 3 re-offending. This programme reduced the national average re-offending rate within the first year of 47% to just 10% . The charity has just opened the second “Clink” in HMP Cardiff to assist with the goals of reducing further offences, re-educate giving life skills and a purpose. They plan to have 11 units by 2017 thereby increasing their success rates. One of our UK team, Neil Clark, was invited to attend the opening luncheon yesterday; 4 courses prepared by and served by prisoners. His verdict? “Absolutely fantastic.” If you’d like to learn more or help out in any way you can visit: www.theclinkcharity.com to find out more.
